Established in 2002
Nestled in the serene hills of San Jose, Ecuador, overlooking the stunning Pacific Ocean, Samai EcoLodge invites you to relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect with nature. “Samai,” meaning “inner spirit” in the Quechua (or Kichwa) language, reflects the essence of this tranquil retreat—a place where body, mind, and spirit find harmony.
Samai Lodge Holistic Living was born from the shared dream of Tania and Ed, who in 1997 began Sacred Journeys—transformational trips designed to connect people with nature in the Andes and the Amazon of Ecuador.
In 2002, they left their life in Minneapolis (USA) and moved to the Pacific coast of San José – Olón, together with their young daughter. There, they created a place where the mountains meet the sea: a sanctuary for the soul, surrounded by nature, culture, and community.
Over the years, Samai has grown into a retreat and resting place with bamboo architecture, breathtaking ocean views, and services that nurture both body and spirit. Today, it remains a family project that inspires reconnection with the earth, with life, and with oneself.
